The annual DVD Concierge Licence is now only £30 + VAT per room per annum and the seasonal licence (suitable for properties open 8 months or less) only £20 + VAT.

Many UK guest accommodation properties are now looking to add value and offer their guests an in-room entertainment service in the form of a DVD film library or DVD Concierge Service. This service enables guests to borrow a selection of DVDs from reception/front desk and watch them in the comfort of their own room.

However, did you know that if you are planning to offer this service you need a licence to do so?

Under UK copyright law, a hotel wishing to play a film in public will generally require the consent (licence) of the copyright owner before doing so. 'In public' means, broadly speaking, to an audience outside of his/her domestic or home circle. If the hotel does not obtain the required licence they risk infringing copyright.

What is the DVD Concierge Licence?

The DVD Concierge Licence is an annual licence payable on a per room basis. The licence will permit properties to operate DVD film libraries for guest use, whether guests are using DVD players, lap tops, games consoles or other portable devices. Properties will be able to hold an unlimited number of DVDs from the represented studios covered by the licence participating in the DVD Concierge Licence Scheme.

The DVD Concierge Licence is an annual licence based on the number of guest rooms in the property, however a seasonal licence is also available for properties open for a period of 8 months or less.

With the DVD Concierge Licence you will be covered for the use of films from many of the major Hollywood and independent studios. For a full list of participating studios, please click here.

However, from time to time it may be necessary for Filmbank to withdraw certain films from the DVD Concierge Licence - a list of such excluded films will be posted from time to time at the DVD Concierge Licence participating studio page.
